Health Ministry PS Unveils Aims Of National Meeting On Health Research Development
Health Ministry Permanent Secretary unveiled the aims of national meeting on research development.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom S., says the National Strategic Meeting on Health Research Development was aimed at enhancing research and developing innovative solutions for healthcare challenges in Nigeria.

Kachollom spoke on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the one-day stakeholders’ engagement on National Strategic Health Research Development and Innovation in Abuja.
“This engagement is aimed at aligning health research with national priorities, foster collaboration among researchers, policymakers, as well as identify innovative solutions for healthcare challenges and to strengthen research capacity,” the top civil servant in the health ministry said.
Kachollom, who acknowledged that Nigeria faces numerous health challenges, from infectious diseases to non-communicable diseases, aid the country also possesses vast resources, expertise, and resilience.
“By harnessing these strengths, we can drive groundbreaking research, innovative solutions, and sustainable development,” she said.
“As part of efforts to actualise Universal Health Coverage (UCH), health research development and innovation is key, as it enables context-specific solutions, translates research into policy and practice and also enhance public-private partnerships.
“This administration is committed to ensuring a conducive environment for the health research ecosystem to thrive thereby serving as a fulcrum for the strategic blueprint anchored around Nigeria’s progress in UHC, geared towards saving lives, reducing both physical and financial pain, and producing health for all Nigeria.
“The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, with a renewed commitment to health research, reconstituted the National Health Research Committee and the National Health Research Ethics Committee with experts from within and diaspora to provide the desired and needed leadership to promote a National Health Research Ecosystem.”
The health ministry’s permanent secretary further reminded stakeholders of the key role research plays in being a part of the global community and responding to disease outbreaks.
