EKO HOT BLOG reports that security vehicles and personnel have been stationed at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge to prevent any protest by residents of the area as toll payment resumes today, Friday.
The Lekki Concession Company (LCC) had announced that it would recommence operations at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge on April 1, and resume toll payment on Saturday,16 April.
However, in a dramatic bravado, the Company have decided to resume toll payment today as security personnel have taken over the place to deter any breakdown of law and order.
This is coming about 18 months after tolling was suspended at the bridge following the aftermath of the #Endsars protests against police brutality and extrajudicial killings in Lagos State in October 2020.
The Lekki Toll gate reopened days after the LCC had a meeting with Lekki communities and residents.
Today’s resumption of the tolling payment was opposed by many Nigerian youths who continued to insist that protesters were killed while waving the Nigerian flag and singing the national anthem during the #EndSARS protests two years ago.
