Herdsmen Attack On Zamfara Villages Leaves 15 Dead, Many Injured

No fewer than 15 people were killed with many others injured when armed bandits unleashed terror on five communities in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The communities attacked included Bidda, Ungwar Rogo, Kajera, Karda, Magazawa.

According to one Muhammadu Alkhamis, the spokesman for the three of the communities, the attacks happened the early hours of the day.

“They came with over 60 motorcycles and each motorcycle conveyed three of their members; everybody started running helter-skelter,” he said.

According to Daily Post, 15 lives were wasted in the three affected villages, and that the victims were male adults.

When contacted, the state police public Relation officer (PPRO), SP Mohammed Shehu confirmed the incident, saying it was a retaliatory attack.

’“It was a reprisal from the Fulani whose people were also killed by the Yansakai at Unguwar Rogo community” the PPRO said.

The state police spokesman said that the people of Unguwar Rogo village had earlier intercepted some Fulani herdsmen migrating from Daza village in the Bungudu Local Government Area of the state three days ago.

“Five of the Fulani people were able to escape and the remaining two were killed by the Yansakai,” he alleged.

Shehu added that the Yansakai refused to hand over the two dead bodies to their people for burial, despite appeals by the Divisional Police officer in charge of the area.

Consequently, the aggrieved Fulani people attacked the three communities in order to retrieve the dead bodies of their brothers and also avenge their killings.

He said that the police had already dispatched armed policemen to the areas to comb the axis and apprehend the Fulani, saying that the police were making effort to restore normalcy to the communities.
