A drone strike targeting an army base in northern Israel has resulted in the deaths of four soldiers and left over 60 others injured, according to a statement from the Israel Defence Forces (IDF).

The IDF also reported that seven soldiers were critically injured in the attack, which took place at a base near Binyamina, a town located roughly 20 miles (33 km) south of Haifa.

Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for the strike, stating that it specifically targeted a training facility used by the IDF’s Golani Brigade, positioned between Tel Aviv and Haifa.

According to Hezbollah’s media office, the attack was carried out in retaliation for recent Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon and Beirut. The group confirmed it used a “swarm of drones” to execute the strike on the base in northern Israel.

The Israeli ambulance service, Magen David Adom (MDA), provided an update, confirming that 61 people were injured, including three in critical condition.

MDA reported that 37 of the injured were transported to eight different regional hospitals, either by ambulance or helicopter.

Aside from the critically wounded, 18 were in moderate condition, 31 sustained mild injuries, and nine others were treated for anxiety.

The reason behind the difference in critical injury numbers reported by the IDF and MDA remains unclear.

Israeli censorship laws restricted the media from disclosing details about the exact location or nature of the attack.

The IDF confirmed that the target was the Binyamina base. Some Israeli media outlets suggested that a low-tech drone, launched from Lebanon, was responsible for the strike, and noted that the drone did not trigger the country’s early-warning alarms.

Throughout the evening, television broadcasts and social media platforms shared footage showing emergency response efforts, with helicopters and ambulances transporting the injured to hospitals across northern Israel.

Many of the casualties were taken to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, with others sent to medical facilities in Tel Hashomer, Haifa, Afula, and Netanya.

Although specific details remain limited, many of the wounded are believed to have been inside a communal dining hall at the time of the attack, caught completely off guard.

Social media images show a mess hall with a gaping hole in its roof, indicating the point of impact.
