This escalation followed an Israeli airstrike on central Beirut on Saturday, which Lebanon’s health ministry said resulted in 29 fatalities.
Amid the violence, Israeli media indicated that negotiations toward a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, involving Hezbollah, were making progress.
Rocket debris was reported falling in the Tel Aviv area, with direct hits leaving “houses in flames and ruins,” according to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). Strikes were also reported in Petah Tikva, Haifa, Nahariya, and Kfar Blum.
Hezbollah stated it had launched precision missiles targeting two military sites in Tel Aviv and nearby areas in retaliation for the Israeli airstrike on Beirut. In response, the IDF reported strikes on 12 Hezbollah command centres in Dahieh, a stronghold in southern Beirut.
Lebanon’s health ministry updated the death toll from Saturday’s Israeli airstrike in central Beirut to 29, with 84 total fatalities reported across the country that day. Lebanese authorities estimate that more than 3,670 people have been killed, over 15,400 injured, and more than one million displaced since October 2023.
The Israeli campaign aims to secure the return of approximately 60,000 northern residents displaced by Hezbollah attacks. Over the last two weeks, Israel has significantly intensified operations against the Iran-backed group.
Meanwhile, Israeli broadcaster Kan, citing Israeli and US officials, reported that Israel had approved advancing a US-proposed ceasefire deal with Lebanon, though some issues remain unresolved.
