Historic Milestone: Oba Rafiu Balogun Marks Two Decades on the Throne and 80 Years of Grace

The 20th Coronation Anniversary and 80th Birthday of His Royal Majesty, Oba Rafiu Ishola Babatunde Balogun (Adetoyese Ejalonibu II), is being celebrated in grand style in Ejinrin Kingdom, Epe.

This remarkable event, spans through a while week, marking a significant milestone in the life of the energetic monarch, who simply expressed his profound gratitude and joy for all he has achieved during his reign.

Oba Balogun shared his thoughts on the rich history of Ejinrin, a town he describes as one of the most flourishing during the colonial era.

Speaking to EkoHotBlog, about the glamorous event, the Kabiyesi posited that Ejinrin stood out among towns like Badagry, Benin Republic, and Ijebu, making it a vital center of business and influence during that time.

He noted that Ejinrin’s port was the second largest in the region after Calabar, thus attracting colonial settlers and fostering development.

Continuing, he said that Major foreign companies like UAC, PZ, GB Oliphant, Geezer, and CFAO chose Ejinrin-Epe as their base, further solidifying the town’s significance.

The Oba also highlighted the strategic linkage between the waterways at the Third Mainland Bridge and Ejinrin, emphasizing the town’s enduring relevance in Nigeria’s history and its role as a center of economic and cultural activities.

He expressed pride in Ejinrin’s legacy and its continued importance in the present day.

Kabiyesi’s queen, Olori Fatima also eulogized her hubby attributing his uniqueness and steadfastness to the grace of God upon his life.

Olori described her husband as God fearing and relentless whilst also praying for longevity for him.

The week-long celebration began on Sunday, January 5th, with a Thanksgiving service at the Celestial Church of Christ in Ejinrin.

This event set the tone for a series of activities designed to honour both the Kabiyesi’s reign and his birthday.

The following day, Monday, January 6th, was dedicated to traditional rites, reflecting the cultural heritage and deep-rooted traditions of Ejinrin Kingdom.

On Tuesday, January 7th, Muslim clerics gathered to offer prayers for the Oba and the community.

The Kabiyesi also emphasized the importance of spirituality and divine guidance in his reign and personal life.

Preparations have been made for visitation of orphanage homes on Wednesday January 8th, where gift items and food stuff will be shared.

In addition, free medical services would be made available to residents and guests, this showcasing the monarch’s commitment to the welfare of his people.

The celebration continues on Thursday, January 9th, with the conferment of chieftaincy titles, a significant aspect of Yoruba culture that recognizes contributions to the community.

Friday, January 10th, prayers would be offered at the mosque during Jumaat, further emphasizing the spiritual dimension of the week’s activities.

Saturday, January 11th, would witness traditional rites and rich cultural display of Masquerade Alapoiyo, a cultural icon that only comes out once every five years.

This rare event will add a unique and festive touch to the celebrations, thus drawing the attention of locals and visitors alike.

The grand finale of the week-long festivities will take place on Sunday, January 12th.

This event is expected to attract people from around the world who will gather to celebrate, wine and dine with the Kabiyesi. It promises to be a day of joy, unity, and cultural pride as the community honours their beloved Oba.

Oba Balogun’s reign has been marked by dedication to the development and progress of Ejinrin.
