FIFA badged referee, Kazim Abiola has made history as he becomes first Nigerian to be appointed by CAF to officiate at the biannual CHAN tournament.
The 2025 CHAN tournament will be held in the East African Nations of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Abiola alongside 29 other referees have been placed on International duty list.
However, Abiola is the only Nigerian referee who will be present in the African Nations Championship slated to begin from 1 – 28 February, 2025.
A total of 26 referees were approved by CAF for the continental tournament while 25 assistant referees and 14 VARs and AVARs were selected to officiate during the competition.
To ensure transparency, the referees were selected from various countries across Africa as only Morocco and Togo had two referees approved each.
For the assistant referees, only Morocco and Cameroon had two representatives each while for the VARs and AVARs, only South Africa had two representatives.
Super Eagles B qualified for CHAN after seeing off neighbour Ghana by 3-1 on aggregate.
The result meant they qualified for CHAN after missing out for six years.
