On March 18, 2023, Hon. Mustainu Abiodun Tobun was reelected to represent Epe State Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly. Hon. Tobun, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled a whopping 14,799 votes to defeat his nearest challenger, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 1,630 votes.
The landslide victory was a culmination and result of the lawmaker’s exceptional representation of his people. The voters made no hesitation to reward his accomplishments. The win was also Hon. Tobun’s fourth to represent his people in the state assembly, further cementing his place as the man of the people.
The Epe lawmaker’s continued success in representing his people has not been by chance; it has come through hard work and impressive concern for the welfare of constituents.
Since 2011 when Hon. Tobun was first elected, he has made considerable efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy to his thousands of constituents. His contributions to Epe State constituency I have touched Education, Women Capital Development, Youth Empowerment, Women Empowerment, Infrastructure, ICT Development, Sports, and other critical sectors.
Specifically, Hon. Tobun facilitated the state government’s building of the mother and child care centre in Epe. The centre has been a source of joy to expectant and nursing mothers in his constituency. The lawmaker has also facilitated the construction of several roads, including the Kasali Oluwo road, Oba Animashaun road, Isale Agunru road, and more.
Personally, Hon. Tobun has provided free screening for diabetes, glaucoma and cataract for Epe residents. He has also sponsored operations on cataracts, in conjunction with the Eye Foundation, three times during his three-term tenure. In terms of social welfare, the lawmaker has empowered Epe residents, about 3,000, every year by donating working tools to them since he assumed office.
In the education sector, Hon. Tobun has bought UTME forms for students in the last 8 years. In a recent interview, he said he bought forms for 400 students in 2023. “We ensure that those who are less privileged are able to access JAMB and free education,” he said, striking the tone of a compassionate leader.
Hon. Tobun’s rare passion for serving the people does not come as a surprise. He comes from a family of politicians. His father was a member of the parliament before independence, as far back as 1957. He has impressively carried on the family’s torch of robust representation and Epe residents are better for it.
Born April 25, 1963, Hon. Tobun has devoted his life to service for 60 years and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down. In fact, he is stepping up his efforts to improve the lives of his constituents as he vowed in his recent interview.
As Hon. Tobun celebrates a milestone, everyone at Eko Hot Blog wishes the accomplished lawmaker a very happy 60th birthday.
