Hon. Fariu Arebi Calls for Revival of Omotosho-Epe-Ajah Power Project

Ekohotblog reports that Prominent APC chieftain in Epe Local Government, Hon. Fariu Arebi, has urged the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Rep. Wale Raji, and other influential leaders to take decisive action on the lingering energy crisis in the Epe Division.

Hon. Arebi, a former Lagos State House of Assembly member during Governor Michael Otedola’s administration, stressed the need for a coordinated effort to pressure the federal government into completing the long-abandoned Omotosho-Epe-Ajah power project.

He made this call on Saturday, December 14, 2024, via posts on various WhatsApp community platforms.

“The Omotosho-Epe-Ajah power project, initiated during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure, was meant to provide stable electricity to Epe and its environs,” Arebi explained.

“Despite former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s attempt to inject ₦5 billion to fast-track the project, political obstacles derailed progress.

This is an opportunity to break the cycle of neglect and fulfill the aspirations of the people.”

He highlighted the critical role of electricity in driving the rapid economic transformation of Epe, noting the community’s increasing contributions to Lagos State’s GDP.

“Projects like the Lagos State multi-billion-naira food bank in Ketu-Epe, the film city in Ejirin, the proposed airport, and the rising number of residential and commercial estates underscore the urgent need for reliable power supply,” he said.

Arebi also pointed to the operational challenges faced by the newly established Federal Medical Center in Epe.

“This facility, brought to fruition under Dr. Tunji Alausa’s leadership, cannot operate effectively without stable electricity,” he added.

“Reliable power is essential for the growth and sustainability of federal and state initiatives in the region.”

Calling for collaboration among political and government leaders, Hon. Arebi praised past contributions to Epe’s development by figures like Chief Dapo Sarumi, Governor Michael Otedola, and Governor Ambode.

“Each leader has played a role in shaping Epe’s progress,” he said. “Now, Dr. Alausa has the unique opportunity to champion the completion of this critical project as a federal minister.”

Dr Alausa

He urged the Lagos State government, lawmakers, local government chairpersons, and community stakeholders to unite in petitioning the federal government.

“This is not just about electricity; it’s about securing the future of Epe,” Arebi stated. “May Allah guide our leaders to make this vision a reality. The time to act is now.”
