Hon. (Princess) Surah Olayemi Animashaun, FHTI, Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, has once again touched lives in the most impactful way, by stepping in to clear the medical bills of several indigent patients admitted at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Epe.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the patients, who were held back not by the severity of their ailments but by their inability to pay hospital bills, were released after the Chairman’s unexpected yet timely intervention.

From emergency trauma to neonatal complications, the cases varied, but the message was the same: leadership, when driven by compassion, can heal more than policies ever will.
Beneficiaries of this humane gesture include:
- A young man battling a gunshot wound, unable to access care until the Chairman intervened
- A diabetic patient whose condition worsened daily due to a lack of funds for treatment
- A mother of a preterm baby, devastated and helpless until her hospital bills were miraculously cleared
- A woman recovering from childbirth (Spontaneous Vaginal Delivery) with no support to settle medical expenses.
- A fracture patient, immobilized and financially stranded.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Moses Victoria, who had been stuck at the hospital with her premature child, shared her emotional story.
“I thought it was over. My baby came too soon, and we didn’t even have money for food, let alone hospital bills.
Every day I watched other people go home, and I stayed crying, praying, begging.
But then, a nurse walked in with the news: ‘Madam, your bills have been paid by the Chairman.’ I screamed. I fell to the ground. I cried like a baby. Who pays hospital bills for someone they’ve never met? Only a woman of divine grace.
Hon. Princess Surah Animashaun didn’t just save my child, she gave us back our lives. She is more than a Chairman, she is a gift from God to Epe.”
In her response, the Chairman emphasized that her actions were not borne out of charity, but responsibility.

“This is not charity. This is responsibility. Leadership must be felt. It must speak to the distress of the people. Healthcare should never be a luxury.
As long as I am in office, no life in Epe will be left to suffer simply because of their financial challenges.
