In the video that is now trending, the ballot papers had finger prints imprinted in favor of the Labor Party candidate, Peter Obi, which stands to be the reason behind the attack.
Also in Surulere, reports have emerged of an incident in which an agent of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party allegedly threatened voters who did not plan to vote for the party. The incident reportedly occurred at Fehintola Giwa Street in the Aguda area of Surulere.
According to eyewitnesses, the APC agent, whose identity has not been disclosed, was captured on camera making threats against voters who expressed support for opposition parties. The agent allegedly told them to leave the polling unit and not participate in the ongoing elections if they were not planning to vote for the APC.
The incident is just one of several reported incidents of violence and voter intimidation that have marred the ongoing elections in Nigeria. In another polling unit located in Dipo Olubi Street in Surulere, reports emerged of an attack by thugs that left several people injured, leading to the suspension of the voting process.
There are concerns about the safety of voters and the integrity of the electoral process in Nigeria, given the recent spate of violence and intimidation. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the body responsible for conducting the elections, has been urged to take swift action to address the situation and ensure that voters are not intimidated or threatened.
The situation in Surulere is particularly worrying, given the reports of violence and intimidation in several polling units in the area. INEC has yet to issue a statement on the matter, but it is hoped that the body will take swift action to address the situation and ensure that voters can exercise their democratic rights without fear of violence or intimidation.
