Members of the fearsome Boko Haram sect have invaded Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The horde of terrorists, who stormed the town in large gun trucks and motorcycles, engaged military troops in an intense gun battle as hundreds of residents fled into Bush for safety.
The latest attack by Boko Haram is coming barely 24 hours after the assumption of office of the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, who took over from General Yusuf Buratai (Rtd).
The attack is a validation of a video purportedly released by a factional leader of the sect, Abubakar Shekau, where he asserted that the New Service Chiefs do not have what takes to brings the decade long insurgency to an end.
Dikwa is in Borno Central, where its Shehu, His Royal Highness, Dr Abba Tor Masta II, died last week after a protracted illness.
Sources and fleeing residents said Dikwa town is under siege with series of sporadic gunshots and explosions happening as they ran for their dear lives.
Dikwa is about 60km drive from Maiduguri, the state capital and a stone’s throw from Mafa Local Government Area where Governor Babagana Zulum hails from.
