Hours After Their Release, Lagos Police Reveal Why Mr Macaroni And Others Were Arrested

#OccupyLekkiTollGate: Mr Macaroni, 39 Other Granted Bail
  • As promised by the #OccupyLekki protesters, they gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate yesterday morning to demand for justice for the victims of the October 20 incident.
  • No fewer than 40 protesters including the famous comedian, Mr. Macaroni were arrested by the police.
  • They were arraigned before the Mobile Court, Panti, Yaba, hours after.

At the yesterday’s #OccupyLekkiTollGate protests at Lekki, Lagos State, popular standup comedian, Debo Adebayo, whose stage name is Mr Macaroni and 39 other protesters were arrested by the Lagos State police force.

But they were later released on bail in the course of the day.

And the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, gave a statement on the reason why the arrest of the protesters took place.

In the statement, he said that they were arrested for conspiracy, and violation of COVID-19 protocols.

Furthermore, he disclosed that they had however been charged to court where their bail was actually granted, EKO HOT BLOG  gathered.

“The suspects had gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate plaza creating tension and behaving in such a manner that could cause breach of public peace without due regard for COVID-19 protocols major of which are use of nose masks and social distancing.”

“The suspects were later arraigned at Panti mobile court where they were granted bail.

“The command has arraigned the suspects at the mobile court at Panti, Yaba accordingly but were however granted bail by the court.

“They are to appear in court on the next date of adjournment, 2nd March, 2021, with the certificate of coronavirus test.

“The command urged Lagosians to be law-abiding while they go about their lawful businesses.”
