House Republicans Unload on Biden’s ‘Botched’ Afghan Withdrawal
A damning report set to be released by House Republicans on Monday will excoriate the Biden administration for its catastrophic handling of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021.
The report, the culmination of a three-year investigation led by Representative Michael McCaul, slams the administration for its delayed evacuation orders, interagency communication failures, and botched paperwork that left Afghan civilians stranded.
The report pulls no punches, declaring that “America’s credibility on the world stage was severely damaged” and that the “moral injury to America’s veterans and those still serving remains a stain on this administration’s legacy.”
The withdrawal has become a highly politicized issue ahead of the November presidential election, with Republican nominee Donald Trump seizing on the issue to attack Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
The report’s release comes as tensions simmer over the bloody finale to the two-decade war, which saw 13 Americans killed in a suicide attack at Kabul airport’s Abbey Gate on August 26, 2021.

Democrats have pushed back, arguing that Trump’s initial withdrawal agreement with the Taliban in 2020 laid the groundwork for the chaotic exit.
But Republican committee aides dismiss this as “partisan politics,” insisting that Biden could have ignored or enforced Trump’s agreement.
The war in Afghanistan has left an indelible mark on the nation, with over 800,000 US servicemembers deployed, 2,238 killed, and nearly 21,000 wounded.
Independent estimates put the number of Afghan security forces and civilians killed at over 100,000.
As the report’s release looms, Secretary of State Antony Blinken faces mounting pressure to testify, with McCaul issuing his third subpoena last week.
The stage is set for a fiery political showdown over the report’s findings and the legacy of the Afghanistan war.
