Houses Submerged As Flood Wreaks Havoc In Lagos

  • Houses have been submerged as flood wreaked havoc in Lagos.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that many houses have been submerged following a heavy downpour that wreaked havoc on various areas in Lagos State on Friday.

Commuters were also stranded as many vehicles were submerged by the rainfall.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that the heavy downpour, which almost crippled commercial activities, submerged houses in Ajegunle, Ojo, Satellite town, and Victoria Island.

It was gathered that commuters wade through buses knee-high in floods in affluent neighbourhoods of Ikoyi and Ikeja, leading to gridlock as scores were forced to seek alternative routes.

EKOHOTBLOG further reports that those whose houses were submerged by the flood in Badia-Ijora, Amukoko, Ojo, and Ajangbadi also had their properties destroyed.

Speaking on the incident, Jimoh Sikiru, a resident of Aiyenero in the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, said the flood took over part of the houses, adding that those who reside in the “Boys quarter” had their beds and chairs soaked.

“We have been bailing water out of the compound since morning. Those of us in the main compound helped those at the backyard to bail water which took over inside of the perimeter fence,” Sikiru stated.

It was further gathered that the Nigerian largest electronics market, Alaba International Market, was also affected by the heavy downpour on Friday.

One of the traders at the market, Delanwa Badmus, disclosed that goods worth millions of naira were destroyed as a result of the flood.

As gathered by EKOHOTBLOG, the incident was confirmed by the Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the South-West Region, Ibrahim Farinloye, noting that no life was lost to the flood.
