EDITOR’S PICK:

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, has urged contractors handling various ongoing housing projects in the State to embrace the right and new technology that will reduce energy usage by homeowners, in line with the current administration’s housing policy of making Lagos a 21st-Century Economy.

During an unplanned inspection visit to the Joint Venture schemes at Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate in Ajah, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the States, Akinderu-Fatai delivered the recommendations.

He said: “It is time to invest in the right building technology that can make homes more energy efficient by minimising electricity and water usage so that the overall utility bills can be reduced”.

The Commissioner averred that efforts should be made to design and construct homes that will help minimise the negative impact of excessive carbonisation on the environment.

He also disclosed that future housing schemes to be embarked upon by the State Government will be based on designs that retain the elements of the natural environment like trees and faunas.

Akinderu-Fatai pointed out that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Administration is looking beyond the provision of adequate shelter to create sustainable and habitable environments for both the present and future generations.

He said future State-owned housing schemes will be more environmentally friendly.

Urging the private sector partners to complete the projects within the stipulated timelines, the Commissioner maintained that the government’s goal of providing adequate housing would be achieved.

“Given the rate of urbanisation of the State, the present administration led by Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu is more determined than ever to make more decent shelters available for the people of the State”, he asserted.
