How Boko Haram Missiles Killed Boys Playing Football
No fewer than nine boys who were playing football got killed on Tuesday when the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents launched multiple missiles into Maiduguri, Borno state capital, Ekohotblog has gathered.
Daily Trust reports that the boys were killed while playing football at Gwange area.
The paper quoted sources who said people that sustained injuries have been taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for treatment.
Adults, including men and women as well as children were among the fatalities, the paper reported, adding that some of the victims have lost their limbs.
Ekohotblog had reported how the attack started around 6pm and lasted for an hour on Tuesday.
A military source said that the insurgents were trying to force their way into Maiduguri but they were repelled around the Kaleri area.
A resident who had confirmed the attack, said: “I was on my way to the mosque when I started hearing the sounds of the bomb blast, followed by that of gunshots. The sounds were coming from the Gwange area of the town.”
Another resident had said: “What I hear is that the insurgents are trying to come into town through Mairi village, close to the University of Maiduguri.”
The attack comes a few hours after the military recaptured Marte, a town 90 kilometres away from Maiduguri.
