EKO HOT BLOG reports that renowned Australian actor Chris Hemsworth has opened up about his desire to leave behind a meaningful legacy as he grapples with the knowledge of being genetically predisposed to Alzheimer’s disease.
In an interview with British GQ magazine, Hemsworth expressed his hopes for how he will be remembered when his time comes, drawing inspiration from the fond remembrances shared at his late grandfather Martin’s funeral.
Having recently experienced the loss of his grandfather to Alzheimer’s at the age of 83, Hemsworth reflected on the heartfelt words spoken about Martin and expressed a wish for a similar sentiment when he passes away.
He recalled his uncle’s remark about Martin being remembered as a “good bloke,” emphasizing the immense pride his grandfather would have felt upon hearing such praise.
The Thor star contemplated his own life in light of these reflections, realizing that his desired legacy extends beyond his successful acting career. For Hemsworth, being remembered as someone who was good-hearted, kind, and contributed value to others holds more significance than professional achievements.
Hemsworth disclosed that his perspective on life has shifted after taking a break from his work following a poignant episode on death for his Disney+ docuseries, Limitless. This newfound awareness of life’s impermanence has made everything more meaningful to the actor.
When discussing his career, Hemsworth expressed his desire to avoid leaving behind a catalogue of subpar films. From now on, he intends to carefully select projects that he deems worthy of his time and effort.
Taking a self-proclaimed “unemployed” status after not working for seven months, he has been relishing quality time with his wife, Elsa, and their three children—daughter India (10) and twin boys Tristan and Sasha (nine).
The revelation of Hemsworth’s genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s came about during the filming of Limitless, where he extensively tested his body’s endurance in various scenarios.
Bloodwork conducted for the show unveiled that Hemsworth is between eight and ten times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s than the general population due to being one of the rare two to three percent of individuals with two copies of the APOE4 gene.
Despite this genetic revelation, Hemsworth remains determined to make the most of his life and create a lasting impact characterized by his kindness, goodness, and meaningful contributions.
