How Lagos Overpowered COVID-19 Third Wave – Sanwo-Olu

Governor Sanwo-Olu has revealed how the Lagos State Government overpowered COVID-19 third wave.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said that the state successfully overpowered the third wave of COVID-19.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made this known while speaking at the 61st Independence Day parade at the Agege Stadium in Lagos on Friday.

The governor stated the Lagos State Government has been taking proactive measures to banish the virus from the state completely.

EKOHOTBLOG recalls that Governor Sanwo-Olu, on July 11, 2021, warned Lagosians about a third wave, following a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases recorded in the state.

This was also as the Federal Government (FG) on August 2, 2021, declared that Nigeria was experiencing the third wave of infections.

Speaking at the end of August, Sanwo-Olu disclosed that Lagos State has seen a surge in severe cases, adding that the number of oxygen cylinders used rose from 75 per day to 400 within the third wave.

Meanwhile, Governor Sanwo-Olu, while speaking at the Agege Stadium on Friday, said there was no reason for Nigerians to lose hope in the country, even in the midst of challenges.

The governor further stated that as the country celebrated her independence, citizens were mindful of the various challenges confronting them as a nation and as a state.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the citizens are equally mindful of the various vistas of progress that have opened up, and which continue to give them hope that the “Nigeria of our dreams can be achieved”.

He said, “Sixty-one years ago, the struggle of our forefathers and nationalists to free our country from the shackles of colonialism and attain the status of a sovereign and independent nation came to a happy ending with the lowering of the Union Jack and hoisting of the Green White Green Flag.

”In the years since then, so much has also happened to us as a country.

“We have fought a civil war, experienced several coups, and ultimately overcome military dictatorship and restored democratic governance.

”This year marks the 22nd year since we began to enjoy uninterrupted democracy, which is itself a huge feat, considering that all previous attempts were short-lived.

“Even in the face of the many challenges confronting us as a people and as a nation, my message to every Nigerian at this time is that we have no reason to lose hope.

”There is enough evidence around us of the fact that while we are not yet where we would like to be as a country and a people, we are also no longer where we used to be,” the governor stated.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that Sanwo-Olu was joined at the 61st Independence Day celebration at the Agege Stadium on Friday by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

Other dignitaries at the event include members of the House of Representatives, Hon. James Faleke (Ikeja Federal Constituency), and Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye (Kosofe Federal Constituency), Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi; Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola; Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Folashade Jaji; and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, amongst others.
