How Mother, 10-Year-Old Daughter Died Of Electrocution In Nnewi

A 55-year-old woman, Mrs Patience Ugbana and her daughter, Adaeze who is said to be 10 years of age have been electrocuted to death, while in their shop in Nnewi.

The incident, which happened on Monday evening, was said to have been caused by a Mercedes lorry which rammed into an electric pole after experiencing brake failure.

According to eyewitnesses in the town, the driver was rescued unhurt and the truck cleared, but shortly after, a high tension cable broke and fell on the roof of Mrs Ugbana’s shop, electrocuting her and her daughter to death.

Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State Police command, SP Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the death of the duo, said they were rushed to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital where they were confirmed dead.

He said, “On 18/05/2020 at about 3:30pm, there was a report at Otolo Division that one Mrs Patience Ugbana ‘f’ aged 55 years and her daughter Miss Adaeze Ugbana ”f’ aged 10years were electrocuted in their shop along St Peter’s junction Okpuno Nnewichi in Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State when a high tension electric wire allegedly fell on victim’s shop.

“Police operatives visited the scene and victims were rushed to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi for treatment but they were confirmed dead by a medical Doctor on duty .

“Meanwhile, Corpses are deposited at the same hospital mortuary for autopsy while Investigation is ongoing to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident please.”

The Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Pascal Anigbo had earlier confirmed that the incident was caused by the impact of the Mercedes lorry on an electric pole after experiencing brake failure.
