How Rivers DPO Was Killed By Gunmen – Police
Eko Hot Blog reports that police in Rivers State have said that a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Bako Angbanshin, was killed by gunmen suspected to be cultists on Friday night.
A statement by the state police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, said Angbanshin led a team of operatives to raid some criminal hideouts in Odumude community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state.
“The operatives were ambushed by the gunmen while returning from the operation,” the statement said.
“In the attack, the DPO sustained fatal injuries and was captured by the gunmen, who took him away and killed him.”
The statement added that one of the informants who was with the DPO was also injured in the attack.
The police said they have contacted the Nigerian Army for assistance in recovering the body of the DPO.
The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Emeka Nwonyi, has condemned the killing of the DPO and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of SP Bako Angbashim and all those affected by this distressing incident,” the CP said.
The killing of the DPO is the latest in a series of attacks on security personnel in Rivers State. In June, two police officers were killed by gunmen in the Ogoni area of the state.
The police have said that they are working to improve security in the state and bring the perpetrators of these attacks to justice.
