How Soldier Allegedly Murdered Man Who Offered Him Assistance

  • A soldier has been arrested for alleged murder of a businessman who offered him a ride.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that a soldier attached to the 6 Battalion in Akwa Ibom State has been arrested for alleged murder of a businessman identified as Enobong Jimmy.

The victim was said to have offered the soldier a ride from Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, to Ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom.

EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the soldier identified as Stephen allegedly attacked and killed Jimmy before they got to their destination last Sunday.

The army officer was said to have not only shot Jimmy with a rifle but inflicted several dagger wounds on the chest of the deceased.

It was further learnt that the soldier reportedly dumped the corpse of the businessman, who hails from Ikot Obio Akai, Mkpat Enin LGA of Akwa Ibom State, by the roadside and took over his vehicle.

The corpse of the deceased, which was deposited at a mortuary, was later discovered by the police while the stolen vehicle was also recovered at Ukanafun Local Government Area of the state.

EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the tracking device in the vehicle made it possible for the security operatives to trace the location of the car.

Meanwhile, the family of the late businessman has called on the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army to ensure that the murderer is brought to justice.

The victim’s brother, Idorenyin Ikpongeyen, while speaking on Wednesday, disclosed that the deceased was on his way to visit his family when he was killed by the soldier who ought to protect him.

Ikpongeyen further revealed that his late brother was an employee of ECO Clearing & Forwarding Company in Port Harcourt.

The victim’s brother said, “It is very painful that we had to lose our brother to the hands of ungodly Nigerian army personnel, all because he wanted to steal or reap from where he did not sow. He was married with two daughters, an 8-year-old and a one-year-old.

“I appeal to the Federal government, the Nigerian Army, and the general public to help fight this fight. Also, I beg the Nigerian government to bring the murderer of my brother to justice.”

EKO HOT BLOG understands that the Nigeria Army has not issued an official statement over the murder case allegedly committed by its officer as of the time of writing this report.
