However, law enforcement said the killing came from a robbery on August 5, 2023.

In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, late Tuesday Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force said the gang’s modus operandi included dressing as military personnel to deceive their victims.

Evidence seized from the murder suspects

The force named the suspects as Fred Azeez Okunnu (43), Lucky Idudu Michael (33), and Adedigba Segun (26), who were apprehended after weeks of investigations.

“Among the items recovered were firearms and military gear used by the gang. Their criminal activities involved robbing motorists of unregistered vehicles,” the statement reads.

“The gang’s modus operandi included dressing as military personnel to deceive their victims. Mr. Sanni’s tragic case unfolded when he realized their true intentions, leading to a violent confrontation. Investigations also revealed a connection to a criminal receiver based in Benin Republic.

“The Lagos State Police Command is collaborating with Interpol to apprehend the criminal receiver, emphasizing the role of drugs in these crimes. Notably, the suspects had previously been convicted for similar offences at various points, but have ended up back on our streets, even more dangerous.
