HURMA Condemns Attack on Lagos Task Force Officer, Demands Justice

Ekohotblog reports that the Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA) has spoken out against an attack on a Lagos State Special Task Force on Land Grabbers (LSSTFLG) officer in Epe.

The group has called for an urgent investigation and the prosecution of those responsible to serve as an example.

In a letter signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak, HURMA expressed concern over the growing insecurity in Igbooye, Eredo LCDA, Lagos State.

The letter was addressed to local and state authorities, including the Lagos State Ministry of Justice.

“We strongly condemn the attack on a harmless officer carrying out his official duty.

“Such acts must not go unpunished to ensure the safety of government workers and the peace of the community,” Comrade Isiak stated.

The incident happened on November 20, 2024, when Mr. Oluwaseyi Fadare, a dispatch officer with the task force, went to paste official notices on properties at Otara Land in Igbooye.

The notices were part of a peace mission following disputes between the Adesada Oganjugbe and Onayemi families and the Abdulrasaq Rafiu family over land ownership.

According to HURMA, Mr. Fadare was harassed, threatened, and attacked by thugs allegedly stationed on the land by the Abdulrasaq Rafiu family.

The attackers seized some of the notices and warned they would use dangerous weapons and charms.

“State workers should not be treated this way. Such behavior is unacceptable and poses a threat to peace and security in the area,” Comrade Isiak added.

Fadare managed to escape unharmed, but the human rights group has called for immediate action.

“We urge the Lagos State Ministry of Justice to investigate this case and ensure that justice is served,” the letter continued.

HURMA warned that failure to act could encourage more attacks on government workers.

“If such acts are not addressed, it could lead to lawlessness and insecurity in the community,” the group cautioned.
