EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a surprising revelation, Olori Tobi Phillips, the third wife of the highly revered Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, opened up about her unique tactic to intimidate others by purchasing a full box of Aso-Oke fabrics.
The former Nigerian beauty queen disclosed this during her birthday celebration on Sunday, June 4, 2023, in a post shared on her Instagram account.
Acknowledging her deviation from the norm, Olori Tobi explained that she received a sarcastic look from the Ooni due to her lack of interest in wearing gele (headgear) since the beginning of their relationship.
Expressing her remorse over the decision, she also lamented the persistent headaches she experiences whenever she adorns a gele.
Sharing her experience, Olori Tobi wrote,
“When I was getting married, I had already purchased an entire box full of Aso-Oke fabrics, intending to display them left and right and slay with gele. But truth be told, I’ve never been a fan of gele from the start.”
The queen continued,
“I could tell my Ori (inner consciousness) was looking at me with a smirk, as if to say, ‘Just keep playing around,’ because wearing gele gives me a headache, no matter how soft and comfortable it is. It’s quite an ordeal!”
Despite her personal aversion to headgear, Olori Tobi decided to tie the gele for the sake of aesthetics on her birthday. She expressed gratitude to God for the gift of life while acknowledging the support and love she has received from her followers.
Olori Tobi’s revelation offers a glimpse into her unique perspective and the dynamics of her relationship with the Ooni of Ife. As a prominent figure in Nigerian royalty, her choice to use Aso-Oke fabrics to create an intimidating presence is a departure from traditional practices.
