I Did Not Enjoy Killing Gerrard’s Dream But Such Is Life – Demba Ba

  • Former Chelsea striker, Demba Ba admits to not enjoying killing Gerrard’s dream
  • He also said he doesn’t regret it because life is not a fairy tale

Ekohotblog reports that former Chelsea striker, Demba Ba has admitted that he didn’t enjoy killing Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard’s dream of winning a premier league cup but said such things are bound to happen in life.

Demba Ba made this known while reminiscing on the infamous event that happened in April 2014 which has now been tagged “Gerrard Slip”. The player admitted to not knowing how significant the event was until after the match.

Liverpool were at the verge of winning their first premier league title in the 2013/2014 league season, however the match in Chelsea was a defining moment that shattered the title winning hopes.

Goals from Willian and Demba Ba led to a 2 – 0 defeat from Chelsea by Liverpool, however, the goal from Demba Ba still rings in the heart of many Liverpool fans as he took advantage of a slip by their captain, Steven Gerrard before putting the goal past Brendan Rodgers side at Anfield.

Speaking during an interview with Athletic, Demba Ba said:

“I remember Jose saying: ‘They think we’re a Mickey Mouse team! But we will show them!’ And we went out fighting.

“I was up against Martin Skrtel and Mama (Mamadou Sakho) and I played an unbelievable game. I felt like I did at Newcastle.

“This was the game that changed Jose’s view of me, I think.”

“I only realised how big a deal that was a couple of years later, when people still talked about it. They still talk about it! It was traumatic for them.

When asked if he felt in any way sorry for capitalising on a mistake by Gerrard, Ba said: “No, not really. Because that’s the game. You make errors and others take advantage.

“What Steven Gerrard has done for the world of football is tremendous. But this is life, unfortunately.

“Not all stories can end in fairytales.”
