“I Don’t See It as a Hard Drug” – Davido Defends Marijuana Use

Nigerian singer Davido has shared insights into his philanthropic work and his stance on drug addiction, clarifying that he does not consider marijuana a hard drug.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that during a recent appearance on The Morning Hustle podcast, Davido revealed that for the third consecutive year, he has pledged donations to orphanages and charitable causes on his birthday.

He recounted how this tradition began two years ago when he tweeted his bank account number, leading fans to contribute nearly $400,000. He shared, “I pledged to orphanages every year on my birthday and I’ve done it for three years now.

It started two years ago when I randomly tweeted my account number and my fans sent me close to $400,000. My dad called me, saying I couldn’t keep the money, so we decided to donate it to a cause, which was the motherless babies home. We did that for the first and second year. This year, I’m using my money through my Foundation.”

Davido also emphasized his commitment to addressing drug abuse, particularly among children. He explained that this year, his donation efforts would focus on helping children struggling with drug addiction. “This year, it’s specifically for kids with drug addiction and drug abuse because of the way it is these days,” he said.

Addressing his views on marijuana, he clarified, “I don’t count weed as a drug. When I posted it, people were like, ‘But you smoke weed,’ but it’s medicinal for some people.”

Davido concluded, stating that his goal is to provide assistance to those affected by drug abuse: “A lot of people have been going through a lot recently, and drugs have taken over. I want to donate to that cause and help them quickly.”
