EKO HOT BLOG reports that a Nigerian Facebook user has taken to social media to celebrate the sad end of a woman’s marriage, which according to the man, stems from the woman lacking respect and submission for her partner.
The man is identified as Vijay Inowei Eldred Opuma, from Bayelsa State, Nigeria, and judging from how divisive his statement on the social media platform were, faced quite the backlash after he celebrated the end of the woman’s marriage.
In a post dated February 9, 2023, Opuma stated that he finds joy in the heart when he sees “disrespectful and submission lacking women get kicked out of their marriages into the street.”
He went on to say that “the street is getting full” and that “more are joining [the woman, Ebiere] in the street.”
Opuma’s post has sparked outrage among social media users who view his statement as a promotion of toxic masculinity and an attack on women’s independence and autonomy.
Many have called for Opuma to apologize for his harmful and insensitive comments, and for Facebook to remove the post.
The outcome of the situation remains unknown as of the time of this reporting. Social media can be quite the toxic environment at times, and mostly when least expected to.
