Activist lawyer, Dele Farotimi, on Tuesday, after being released from detention stood firmly by the allegations he made against a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Afe Babalola, in his contentious book, Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System.
Farotimi, known for activism and his vocal critique of Nigeria’s justice system, held on to his position that he has never fabricated claims against anyone, claiming that his assertions are rooted in truth.

Reflecting on his legal battles and advocacy work, Farotimi said:
“It is not ever an easy journey when you are fighting evil, but some years back, before I started this work, God told me that the truth is enough.
It is the only weapon with which you can slay the monster called Nigeria, which is the truth.”
Farotimi maintained that his activism is grounded in honesty, adding, “In my war against the evil empire that we all live in, I have never lied against anyone. If I don’t know, I will say I don’t know.”
The magistrate court had granted Farotimi bail last Friday, setting the bond at a substantial N30 million. In addition to the monetary condition, the court stipulated that Farotimi must provide two sureties, one of whom must own property.
Furthermore, the activist was required to submit his passport and was prohibited from granting media interviews upon his release.
Farotimi had been arrested earlier in the month following accusations of defaming Afe Babalola, a prominent legal luminary and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD).
His detention and the court’s stringent bail conditions sparked widespread debate about freedom of speech and the challenges faced by critics of Nigeria’s establishment.
Farotimi’s remarks on Tuesday reflected his determination to continue his advocacy despite legal and personal challenges. He framed his battle as a moral and spiritual crusade against systemic injustice in Nigeria.
The activist lawyer’s controversial book, Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System, has drawn sharp reactions, with supporters lauding his courage in confronting powerful figures and critics accusing him of overstepping legal boundaries.
As the case unfolds, Farotimi’s defiance underscores the broader struggle for justice and accountability in Nigeria, highlighting the intersection of law, power, and activism in the country’s complex socio-political landscape.
