"I Have No Choice But To Give Back To The Community" - Dr Olasunkanmi Adeyinka

“There are a lot of wonderful people in this audience tonight, so everyone here is a VIP” – Dr Wosilat Olasunkanmi Adeyinka.

Recently inducted member of the sexagenarian class, Dr Wosilat Olasunkanmi Adeyinka, in a sober reflection of her life’s sojourn, has expressed her unshackled appreciation to God for the journey so far and also trothed to continue the work of altruism by giving back to the society.

Dr Adeyinka, speaking during the reception party of her 60th birth anniversary held at her Texas residence, appreciated God for His unfailing mercies on her life, from her formative years in Nigeria to her fastidious progress in the medical practition in the United States.

The reception party was a culmination of a Thanksgiving held at the Masjid Mumineen reception hall on Friday, July 2nd, 2021.

In her remarks, the celebrant appreciated friends, family members and acquaintances for the honour of turning up to mark her special day.

“There are a lot of wonderful people in this audience tonight, so when you were asking about recognition I said everyone here is a VIP,” she said.

She thanked the planning committee, whom she said did a “fabulous job” job in ensuring the logistical demands of the birthday fete.

“I find myself very fortunate, and very thankful to almighty Allah. I am very thankful to my family, and to my husband; because for all the things I have been able to do, for all the community service, he has always supported me.

Dr. Adeyinka also appreciated her husband, Oladapo Abidemi Adeyinka, and her three children, whom she described as her source of inspiration.

Dr Adeyinka noted that meeting Dr. Louis upon her arrival in America through a casual friend served as a huge catalyst to the series of events which ultimately culminated to her successful foray into the world of family medicine in the United States.

“One thing I want everyone to take away from here is that it is not about me. It is about almighty Allah. I cannot talk about my success in the US without God, and there is one individual that I would like everybody, wherever she is, I want everybody to pray for her. That is Dr Kems. People that have read my story, I have told you that before.”

According to her, that kindness inspired her to develop a stronger sense of altruism to ensure that all those who came after her would be afforded a correlative soft landing like that which Dr Louis had generously extended to her.

“When I went for the interview, the chairman looked at me and said, ‘do you really want to see the letter (recommendation) that Dr Louis wrote for you? because you had waived your right that you didn’t wanna see it.’ I said I’ll see it. So she gave it to me, and I read and was crying. I was crying because, this woman that I’ve never known, how could she paint such a good picture of me?”

“So from that day forward, that was the beginning of good things for me in America. As a result I had no choice except to give back to the community. To be the focus and hopefully provide other people with soft landing,” she said.

Dr Adeyinka also entreated the gathering to draw lessons from the unexpected tragedy occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic and love each other while “alive,” pray for one another, and exude the best possible intentions towards one another.
