The reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has announced that he has resumed his duties as deputy governor and will be working from home.
He also denied involvement in the attack that led to the death of police inspector Akor Onuh in Benin on Thursday.
In response to the state government’s accusations that he orchestrated the attack at the exit of Benin Airport, Shaibu addressed journalists on Friday, expressing his shock over the incident.
He noted that he has avoided calling for protests over the past year to prevent any confrontations with the state government and their agents.
Shaibu further disclosed that he has filed a N5 billion defamation lawsuit against the Governor, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation Chris Nehikhare, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie.

He criticized Nehikhare and Osagie for claiming he remains impeached, accusing them of not properly studying the court judgment before making public statements, which he described as their usual practice.
Shaibu emphasized that the judgment reinstating him is declarative and must be implemented before any appeal can be heard. He asserted that the stay of judgment execution filed by the state cannot take effect until the judgment is executed.
“They said I was the one who planned the attack, but I came in peacefully from Abuja to the state capital. Why were the armed thugs laying ambush for me? Were they expecting a visitor?
“I have already instituted a N5 billion suit against the governor, Nehikhare, and Osagie for defamation. They will be served next week.
“I have resumed, recalled all my staff, and I will be working from home to prevent any confrontation. I remain the deputy governor. All salary and entitlement will be paid,” he added.
