In his debut season, he guided the club to a remarkable Treble, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League during the 2008/2009 campaign.
He continued his success by securing another La Liga title in 2010 and clinching both the Champions League and La Liga again in 2011.
As a player, Guardiola also contributed to Barcelona’s La Liga triumphs and was part of the team that won the club’s first-ever Champions League title in 1992.
At Barcelona, Guardiola worked with a legendary group of players, including Lionel Messi, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Dani Alves, Sergio Busquets, Eric Abidal, David Villa, Pedro, Carles Puyol, and Gerard Piqué. His teams were celebrated for their iconic tiki-taka style of football.
When asked about the possibility of facing Barcelona, the Spanish coach expressed his desire to avoid a clash with the club he once called home.
“I hope not to face Barça in Champions League. The love and affection I have for Barça destroys me,” he was quoted on Fabrizio Romano’s X handle.
“I was lucky and happy in Barcelona, it’s the team of my heart.”
As Bayern Munich manager, Guardiola encountered Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals.
In the first leg, Barcelona secured a 3-0 victory with two goals from Lionel Messi and one from Neymar.
In the return leg at the Allianz Arena, Bayern managed a 3-2 win, but it wasn’t enough to overturn the aggregate score.
