Hon Dimeji Bankole, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has justified his defection from the African Democratic Party (ADP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bankole told journalists on Monday that he joined the APC to help rebuild the country after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja.
He observed that Nigeria was going through a difficult period and that it would take everyone’s efforts to get the country back on track.
“There are issues that need to be resolved, and any rational human being should support this moment,” he said. Nigerians are facing critical times from Borno State to Lagos State, and from Bayelsa State to Sokoto State, and we must not be found wanting.

“Now is the time to take action and show support so that these decisions can be made, carried out, and owned by us as a nation. Because, in ten or twenty years, people will wonder who stood up when these things happened. It’s a right that every citizen has, and all we’ve done today is exercise it; our actions will speak for themselves.”
Mai Mala Buni, the Chairman of the APC National Caretaker Committee/National Convention Planning Committee and the Governor of Yobe State, had previously introduced Bankole and former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, to President Buhari as new members.
Atiku Bagudu, the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum and the governor of Kebbi State, was present, as was Abubakar Badaru, the governor of Jigawa State.
Buni said they came to present the new party members to the president, who expressed joy at the caliber of the defectors, after the meeting.
