I Made Amaechi Rivers Governor – Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has alleged that he appointed Rotimi Amaechi, his predecessor and Minister of Transport, as the state’s governor.

Wike, who was Amaechi’s former Chief of Staff, chastised the APC leader for referring to him as his employee in an interview with the BBC Pidgin service on Friday.

The Rivers governor also stated that being an employee of Amaechi, whom he appointed as governor, was not possible. Amaechi, he said, was an ungrateful and self-centered politician.

When Amaechi was governor, he accused his predecessor of mismanaging state funds, saying that Ameachi sold the state’s gas turbine for $308,000 and left his government with $208,000.

“Amaechi and I were in the same political party, and in politics, everyone has their own ambition,” he said. He wanted to be governor, and I didn’t want to be governor at the time. As a result, we campaigned for and backed him for governor.

“Now that he’s in the APC, you can’t expect me, as a PDP member, to support what he’s doing.

“It was God who chose me to be Amaechi’s governor. I’ll even make you a tape of what he said in church, that I’m next after God. But when he said the other day that I was on his team, that I was an employee, I said no problem.

“We all sat down to elect you governor, and I was the driving force behind it.

How do you refer to someone who appointed you as governor as an employee? He asked me how we were going to run this government when he became governor, and he offered me the position of commissioner of finance, but I declined, preferring to work in the chief of staff’s office.

“I had the power to choose when I made him governor. People are aware of the situation in this state.

“Did his APC even get a quarter of a percent in the 2015 and 2019 elections? Is it true that his staff prevented him from securing Rivers as a supporter of his presidential candidate? Was he able to prevent his candidate from winning the governorship election? Isn’t there even a senatorial seat available?

“Well, we got through that. I’ll be governor over his dead body, he said, and now I’m going for that dead body.

I’ve been governor for the past eight years. They said the PDP was in power when I won in 2015, but I won again in 2019 when the APC was in power.”
