Pope Francis has privately admitted to close confidants that he may not survive his recent bout of pneumonia, after doctors warned him he was at serious risk of dying if he remained at the Vatican, according to a new report.
The 88-year-old pontiff was rushed to Rome’s Gemelli hospital on Friday after experiencing severe chest pain, having resisted medical intervention for days.

Doctors diagnosed him with a “complex” respiratory infection, prompting the Vatican to cancel or reschedule his engagements this week.
On Tuesday, the Vatican confirmed that the Pope’s pneumonia was compounded by asthmatic bronchitis, requiring cortisone and antibiotic treatment.
Officials stated that “laboratory tests, a chest X-ray, and the Holy Father’s clinical condition continue to present a complex picture.”
The infection is particularly concerning given that Francis had part of his lung removed decades ago.
Now, two sources close to him have claimed he recently confided, “I might not make it this time,” according to a Politico report.
