I Was Wrong – Paul Scholes Admits Fault On Liverpool Blunder
-
Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes admits fault to thinking Liverpool were genuine contenders of the premier league heading into the 2022/23 season.
-
This is in reference to the Merseyside team’s poor run of form this season that sees the Reds succumb to a position far from where they are known for under Jurgen Klopp.
-
Earlier to the season, Paul Scholes had claimed there was a gulf in class between Liverpool and Manchester United, arguing that the Merseyside team were far above United.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has admitted that he was wrong to judge the title credentials of Liverpool and his former club earlier this season.
Going into the highly anticipated Premier League clash between the two rivals at Anfield on Sunday evening, Scholes acknowledged that United were far behind Liverpool last season and that he had underestimated the Reds’ struggles this season.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Scholes admitted that he had been impressed by Liverpool’s performances in recent seasons and had predicted that Jurgen Klopp’s side had a great chance of winning the league this year. However, he now concedes that his prediction was wrong and that Liverpool have struggled to maintain their form.
“I’ve been a little surprised by Liverpool’s season,” said Scholes. “I was actually on here thinking Liverpool have a great chance of winning the league this year. I was so wrong.”
Scholes also admitted that United were a long way behind Liverpool when the two sides last met at Anfield, where the Reds cruised to a 2-0 victory. However, he pointed out that this season has been very different, with United currently sitting ten points clear of Liverpool in the Premier League table.
“Not a chance [of me expecting Manchester United to be ten points clear of Liverpool compared to their defeat at Anfield twelve months ago],” Scholes said. “Working at the game on the night. The teams were miles apart.”
Scholes’ comments come as both United and Liverpool look to gain an advantage in the race for the top four. United are currently second in the Premier League table, while Liverpool are sixth, three points behind Chelsea in fourth.
The two sides have a long-standing rivalry, with Liverpool dominating English football in the 1970s and 80s, before United enjoyed a period of dominance in the 1990s and 2000s.
