Sylvester Dahunsi Ogunkelu has revealed to Ekohotblog what his constituents are to expect in the coming year in terms of SDGs-oriented programs and projects which include youth employment and empowerment, free medical mission and waste management.

” 2021 is around the corner and it is my prayers that we live to witness the new year. 2021 will be a year that we will start a new plan. Although, every January of every year, I provide free medical check-up, free eye surgery and distribution of free eyeglasses to the old people. I believe I still want to continue to embark on such laudable exercise for the good people of Eredo since it is my duty to serve them to the best of my ability.

Besides that, I will make sure whatever thing that the youths will benefit from will be looked into. I will continue to facilitate youth empowerment through the Governor. For most of our youths who does not have work, I will make sure at least 70% of them are employed so that they won’t be on the street. The fact that our youths don’t have the means to earn a living makes them take to the streets to protest. I am a youth, I represent the youths. Whatever I’m going to do, I’ll make sure I co-opt the youths to give them a sense of belonging. I’m 100% in support of their agitations”, Hon. Ogunkelu said.

As Chairman, House Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Investment, Hon. Sylvester Dahunsi hinted that the committee has made budgetary provisions in the 2021 budget for what he called ” SDG Ambassadors “. The project, he said, will first be launched in 7 local governments with offices across the 20 Local Government and 57 LCDAs. Speaking further, he inundated our reporter with the resolve of LAWMA to make provisions for what he called ” LAWMA Pot ” in every household across the state which will reduce the reckless disposal of wastes thereby causing environmental pollution.

” In my committee, we are trying to plan in our 2021 budget what we call SDG Ambassadors. We are going to launch the first 7 Local governments comprising Eredo, Ikosi-Ejinrin, Epe and others before February 2021. They will have offices through the 20 Local Governments and 57 LCDAs.

We have another empowerment program in coming up in partnership with the United Nations Development Program.

As regard waste management, ” we are not in charge of LAWMA but very soon, each household will have a LAWMA pot where they will trash their waste”, he said.
