Ibadan Descendants Union Gears Up For Biennial Convention In Texas
A US-based Ibadan socio-cultural body, the Ibadan Descendants Union, IDU, is set to hold its 12th Biennial Convention.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the convention, slated told from September 20 – 22, 2024, provides an opportunity for all sons and daughters of Ibadanland to unite with friends and family and also to create awareness about members’ businesses for patronage.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the convention is taking place at the Grace Event Center 15401 Bellaire Boulevard Houston, Texas in the United States.

The union is a non-profit organization established by sons and daughters of Ibadan residing in the USA, with the mission to support and promote academic and economic growth of Ibadan.
It is also committed to educating and promoting the cultural awareness of the Ibadan and Yoruba people in the Diaspora.
IDU USA, since its inception 2003, has embarked on several projects to benefit people in Ibadan such as the renovation of in-patient wards in a major city hospital, donation of medical equipment to a city hospital and Oyo State government, and provision of educational materials to students in every academic level.
The union recently organised six-month training on various vocations such as tailoring, shoemaking and graphic designs, where the youths were trained by selected instructors in the crafts stated.
Its National President, the Ajia Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Abiola Iyiola, while speaking at the graduation ceremony held recently, charged the graduands to make good use of the trainings they have received in the last six months.
He added that the reason IDU USA organised the vocational training for Ibadan youths was to arrest youth restiveness and empower them to be busy and be able to earn good living.

The royal figure further said that the success of the pilot training programme for Ibadan youths would ensure the continuation of the programme, disclosing that efforts were in place to set the graduands up with relevant equipment needed to start up their vocations.
The major highlight of the graduation ceremony was the presentation of certificates of completion to the graduands by some notable members of IDU, USA, present and the instructors.
Similarly, the graduands showcased the products they produced after their trainings to the applause of the guests present.
