Eko Hot Blog reports that in response to heavy downpours and increasing flood risks, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the Council Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government, conducted an inspection tour with drainage services officials.
The inspection covered critical sites including the military quarters at Eleko, Ayeteju, Elemoro, Kajola, Oribanwa, and Gbetu en route to Adeba. Key observations highlighted potential flooding concerns.
At Eleko, illegal shops obstructed the expressway drainage, contributing to flood risks.
In Ayeteju, Hon. Olowa inspected ongoing drainage construction efforts aimed at improving water flow and preventing waterlogging issues.
Elemoro’s inspection revealed that haulage services disrupted water flow significantly, while the Kajola canal was covered with water hyacinth, further impeding drainage efficiency.
In Gbetu, road inaccessibility due to severe flooding was a major concern.
State officials assured prompt intervention. The Ibeju Lekki LG administration had previously cleared canals and filled roads with stones.
With heavy rainfall surpassing previous years, residents are urged to avoid actions that contribute to environmental degradation.
Hon. Olowa emphasized his administration’s commitment to residents’ safety and well-being, urging the maintenance of clear drainage systems and reporting of any illegal activities obstructing water flow.
“Flooding is a serious concern; we must all play our part,” he stated.
“Our administration is dedicated to sustainable solutions and seeks community support in these efforts.”
As the rainy season continues, Ibeju Lekki Local Government remains vigilant and proactive in addressing flood risks, aiming to protect lives and property within the council area.
