EKO HOT BLOG reports that IBILE Youth Ambassadors of Epe Division on Monday organised this year’s International Day of the Boy Child with the theme: ‘Kings Awake’.

The first of its kind event hosted by Ambassador Saheed Rahmon featured a fitness walk, games and other recreational activities.

The young boys accompanied by paramilitary organisations and students of Lagos State University of Education Micahel Otedola Campus for the fitness walk, converged at the famous Aiyetoro market, through the Lagos Road, Hospital Road routes and rounded up at the Epe recreation centre.

This online media platform gathered that Member, Federal House of Representative, representing Epe federal constituency, Hon Wale Raji and Chairman of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Animashaun spoke with the boy child and teenagers about contentious issues hampering their personal growth.

Speaking with EKO HOT BLOG at the occasion, Mr Shettima Adebanjo Adegboyega, who represented the Chairman of Epe Local Government, applauded the organisers for the visionary initiative while he also implored the teenagers to eschew immorality.

“The program is laudable and the message from the Chairman to the boys is that of effectiveness and decisiveness in doing away with morally questionable acts which include cultism, drug abuse and internet fraud,” he said.

He further noted that the Chairman expects that the boys would continue to act responsibly right from their various homes.

On his part, Hon Wale Raji, represented by his Legislative Aide on Education and Research, Comrade Osifeko Mark, reiterated the commitment of the legislator to continually support impactful initiatives of the association.

“This initiative is a good one as it celebrates the boys who are unfortunately the less celebrated of the children. The resolve is to create awareness about social vices, and sexual and domestic violence against the boy child just as the girl child,” he said.

He emphasised that the legislator is not slowing down in ensuring that the youths are engaged in beneficial socio-economic programs, particularly those bothering on Information Technology.

He further hinted that the MHR would soon roll out bursary award programs for students to complement the laudable educational programs established across the Epe federal constituency.

“All these are geared towards making our youths better because once you heavily invest heavily in education, you’re taking our kids off social vices and God-willing, we would do more to ensure a better society,” he said.

Addressing participants during the program, the coordinator of the IBILE Youth Ambassadors, Epe Division, Comrade Rahman Saheed, expressed delight at the turnout of students for the event.

He noted that the program was crucial to organising to change the narrative of the boy child’s dominance in disgraceful acts such as cultism, drug abuse rape and other forms of delinquency.

“The significance of celebrating the international boy child’s day celebration in Epe is to make the boys know that there is a change in the narrative. We need to talk to them that beyond their involvement in those immoral acts, there are wholesome alternatives.”

He lamented that the boy child has been neglected so much that they take solace in drug use, rather than the usual “man up” talks in times of adversity, he urged that the boy child must begin to “soro soke.”

He asserted that catching the boys young with programs of such nature would not only have multiplier effects on their future and the society by extension but also give the boys a sense of belonging in terms of morals and intellects.

Present at the event were students from both Public and Private schools, among which are the Odo-Obara High School, Scholars International School, Army Children Junior School and a host of others.
