Demonstrators carried placards with messages such as “Bike man, motorists now avoid this road,” and “Gov. Dapo Abiodun, we appeal to you to fix Idomila road,” highlighting their urgent plea for government intervention.

Alhaji Kunle Sanni, Chairman of the Idomila Elders Council, spoke to reporters during the protest, emphasizing the community’s agricultural significance and the challenges faced in transporting produce to markets.

He also warned of the growing threat of erosion, stating, “We have so far been under siege by erosion, which according to him may further sink the community if no help comes their way on time to fix the road.”

Sanni appealed directly to the governor, saying, “We want the governor to assist in repairing this road for us. Let them check their records, in Idomila we voted wholeheartedly for the emergence of the governor.”

Mrs. Dahunsi Oderinde, another community member, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the road’s strategic importance as a link to the Army Barracks at Ilese.

She described the road’s current state as a “death trap,” citing at least one fatality and multiple hospitalizations due to its condition.

“We as a community have attempted several palliatives to fill the potholes with bags and broken blocks, spending millions of naira in the process.

However, the road remains in a terrible state, hindering access to the market, schools, and other essential amenities,” Oderinde explained.
