‘If You See Am, Talk Am’ — Lagos Asks Residents To Report Domestic, Sexual Violence

• Lagos anti-domestic, sexual violence agency is leading the campaign.

• It partnered with the Lagos Bus Service Limited to sensitise Lagos residents on the dangers of sexual and domestic violence.

• Thursday was the first day of a three-day campaign.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has partnered with the Lagos Bus Service Limited (LBSL) to put an end to the growing concerns about Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in the state.

Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi made the disclosure at an event put together to sensitise Bus Drivers and Commuters on SGBV.

The event which was themed, “SGBV No Dey Show For Face, If You See Am Talk Am, E Fit Be You O” was held recently at the Obalende Park on Lagos Island.

Vivour-Adeniyi stated that the mutually beneficial partnership was aimed at heightening awareness on issues of SGBV in the state.

The Executive Secretary averred that awareness is key in educating the populace that SGBV crimes are against the State and with the statutory mandate of the agency to respond with existing support services, residents can call its toll-free line to also report cases.

The Managing Director, Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL), Idowu Oguntona, said the purpose of the collaboration was to increase awareness of the prevalence of Gender-Based violence in Lagos.

According to him, “The partnership with the DSVA is to lend our voice to the cause even as we reiterate the fact that our men should respect the female gender and see them as our equals. Indeed, societies where there is equality between men and women are found to be safer than regular societies.”

On Thursday, May 11, members of the DSVA and LBSL trooped out to the streets of Dopemu to campaign against sexual and domestic violence.
