EKO HOT BLOG reports that the South East/Igbo APC Progressives Roundtable (SIAPRO) has pleaded with the Yoruba people of Lagos to overlook the recent controversial statement that Lagos State is a “no man’s land.” The statement had come with consequences during the just concluded governorship election in Lagos State.
At a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the convener of SIAPRO, Uche Diala, represented the Igbo-speaking people in Lagos and said that Lagos State is “no less Yoruba land as Anambra State is Igbo land and just like Lagos is not a no man’s land, the way Ebonyi State is not a no man’s land.”
He appealed to the Yorubas to overlook any provocations, disrespect, or insults that they may have endured during the just concluded elections in the state. Diala also stated that any contrary view is as irresponsible as provocative and unacceptable in the interest of societal and national development.
The convener of SIAPRO acknowledged that the Igbo have been known for ages to be noble guests who add value to their hosts in a symbiotic relationship and have never been known to be a burden to their hosts across Nigeria and elsewhere in the world. He further noted that nowhere else in Nigeria is that bond of friendship, deep integration, and all-around success more pronounced and enduring than in Lagos State.
Diala’s comments come in the wake of a statement made by a popular politician during the Lagos State gubernatorial campaign which caused tension between the Igbo and Yoruba communities. It is hoped that the appeal by SIAPRO will go a long way in fostering better relations between the two communities in Lagos State.
