Eko Hot Blog reports that High Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, has issued a stern warning to the Igbo community.
In a crucial meeting with the Igbo Community Assembly, Iwuanyanwu emphasized the need to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“If Nigeria fails, Igbos are going to suffer more than any tribe,” Iwuanyanwu declared, citing the substantial investments made by the Igbo community across the nation.
Notably, he highlighted the significant Igbo presence in cities like Abuja, stating, “If Nigeria is a corporate body, I think we (Igbos) have more investments than many other tribes.”
Despite the initial lack of support for Tinubu during the recent elections, fueled by the belief that a Southeasterner should lead the nation, Iwuanyanwu announced a strategic shift.
“So, as your leader, I have proclaimed that Igbos, as good citizens of Nigeria, will support him,” he affirmed.
However, Iwuanyanwu’s call for support came with a condition – the expectation of fair treatment from the federal government.
“I think it is my duty as your leader to say that we are going to give every support we can to help the government to succeed,” he said. “But we also expect the government to reciprocate the gesture by ensuring that what belongs to us is given to us.”
Drawing on his personal connections and political experiences, Iwuanyanwu recalled his relationships with figures like MKO Abiola and his long-standing acquaintance with Tinubu.
Additionally, he reassured his community that supporting Tinubu’s government was a strategic move aimed at ensuring stability and prosperity for the Igbos in Nigeria.
