Igboke Gets First Super Eagles’ Call-up, Replaces Injured Osimhen

Eko Hot Blog reports that Enugu Rangers left-back Kenneth Igboke has been called up by Super Eagles coach Finidi George to replace Victor Osimhen, who is sidelined by injury for the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.

On Tuesday, it was announced the team’s official handle X that Osimhen, who played in Napoli’s last Serie A match of the season on Sunday, sustained an injury sidelining him for four weeks.
Igboke was subsequently called up to replace the Italy-based defender.
“Africa Player of The Year, Victor Osimhen is injured and out for four weeks.
“Super Eagles’ Coach Finidi George has called up Enugu Rangers’ left back Kenneth Igboke for the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic” the post read.
Hence, with Igboke’s inclusion, the squad now boasts seven defenders, and he adds to the tally of Nigeria Premier Football League players, bringing it to three.
Enyimba’s Ojo Olorunleke was previously called up, while Remo Stars defender Sodiq Ismail earned his first call-up.
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Igboke has featured in 20 games for the NPFL leaders this season, contributing with two goals and one assist.
Nigeria will host Bafana Bafana on June 7 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, then travel to Ivory Coast to face Benin Republic on June 10.
