EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has ordered an investigation into the recent invasion and killings in the Ayingba local government area ahead of the governorship election in Kogi State.
Announcing the development in a statement on Wednesday, Force Public Relations officer, Oluwamuyiwa Adejoboi revealed that the IGP gave the order during a meeting with the stakeholders of the state in the buildup to Saturday’s Governorship election.
Held in the run-up to the state’s governorship election on November 11, Political leaders, representatives of political parties, civil society organizations, electoral authorities, traditional and religious leaders, youth leaders, and security agencies attended the stakeholders’ engagement in the state capital.
Adejobi detailed that the major purpose of this gathering was to engage in constructive discourse, share information, and deliberate on steps to ensure the state’s electoral process is free, fair, credible, and peaceful.
“During the meeting, the IGP reacting to a trending video of an incident in Anyigba where it was alleged that some armed men attacked the residence of one of the key officials in one of the parties, charged the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) to take over the case for thorough investigation in order to ascertain all parties concerned, their respective levels of involvement and to ensure justice by all means,” statement by Adejobi read.
