IGP Deploys More Detectives To Rescue Kidnapped Benue Students

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has deployed additional detectives to Benue State to assist in rescuing the kidnapped medical students.

The students, 20 in total, from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were abducted on Thursday evening while traveling along the Otukpo/Otukpa/Enugu road.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that they were en route to Enugu for the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students’ annual convention when the incident occurred.

On Saturday, Egbetokun ordered the deployment of tactical units, including helicopters, drones, and tactical vehicles, to expedite the rescue operation.

IGP Kidnapped Benue Students

Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Sunday, confirmed the arrival of additional detectives in Benue State and stressed the importance of public cooperation in securing the students’ release.

He stated, “The IG reiterates his commitment to rescuing the kidnapped medical students in Benue unharmed. He calls for understanding and support as additional trained detectives arrive in Benue.”

Adejobi also praised citizens who have been discreetly providing vital information to the police, urging those sharing sensitive details on social media to refrain from doing so.
