EKO HOT BLOG reports the Ijaw Youths Council has urged major political parties vying for presidential nominations in the 2023 general election to zone its presidential candidates to the south.

In an exclusive interview with the Press, Ebilade Ekerefe, the IYC’s national spokesman, stated this.

According to him, when President Buhari’s tenure ends, the North will have served eight years as the country’s president.

After the president’s term, Ekerefe stated, power should naturally shift to the country’s southern regions.

The Ijaw Youths spokesman posited that Nigeria was a plural state and added that it was only fair and equitable that the presidency should move to the South at the end of Buhari’s two tenures in office.

“Nigeria is a plural state, and power should be evenly divided,” Ekerefe remarked. The North has had eight years of control, and power is expected to shift to the South in order to strengthen democracy, mutual respect, equity, and fairness.

“We advise the dominant political parties, especially the ruling All Progressives Congress and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party to micro-zone their presidential tickets to the South.”

The Ijaw Youths spokesman noted that Ijaw and Niger Delta youths had been agitating for the presidency to go to the South and would not relent to do so, even ahead of the primary elections of the parties in May.

He, however, observed that all the aspirants that have so far indicated interest to contest the presidency at the forthcoming polls had been silent on the peace and development of the Niger Delta.

Ekerefe further said, “Curiously, those who have shown interest in the presidency are not prioritising the Niger Delta question.
