Ikoyi Building Collapse: Death Toll Hits 22 As Emergency Workers Recover Two More Bodies
- Death toll at the Ikoyi building collapse has hit 22 as two more bodies were recovered by the emergency workers at the site on Wednesday.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that two more bodies have on Wednesday been recovered by emergency workers at the site of collapsed building in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
This, however, brought the death toll at the Ikoyi building collapse to 22, with the search and rescue operations ongoing.
This online newspaper reports that no fewer than nine persons have been rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building since the tragic incident occurred on Monday afternoon.
The total number of people in the building at the time of the collapse had yet to be ascertained but witnesses had said that dozens may have been trapped.
Meanwhile, the emergency workers at the collapsed building have so far accounted for 31 people – nine alive and 22 dead.

Recall that tragedy struck in the Nigeria’s commercial city on Monday, November 1, 2021, as the 21-storey building, situated along Gerard Road, Ikoyi, collapsed.
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, ordered the immediate suspension of the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Mr. Gbolahan Oki, over the collapsed building.
This was just as the governor stated that an independent panel will probe and investigate the remote and immediate causes of the incident, as well as make recommendations on how to prevent future collapses.
