Eko Hot Blog reports that the Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
He congratulated the president in a statement issued Wednesday evening.
Recall that a five-man panel of the tribunal led by Justice Haruna Tsammani dismissed all cases filed against Tinubu by the presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party and the Allied Movement Party (APM) on Wednesday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Tinubu the winner of the February 25 poll after scoring 8,794,827 votes to defeat PDP’s Atiku Abubakar who got 6,984,520 votes and LP’s Peter Obi who came third with 6,101,583 votes.
Dissatisfied with the declaration, Atiku, Obi and APM’s Chichi Ojei approached the tribunal claiming that INEC failed to comply with Electoral Act during the exercise and asked it to nullify the results of the election.
However, the court, in a unanimous verdict, said the petitions lacked merit and were not proven.
It therefore declared Tinubu as the duly elected President of Nigeria.
Reacting to the decision, Ikuforiji said the unanimous verdict by the tribunal reconfirmed the “overwhelming support” of the president during the election.
The former Lagos Speaker however urged the leading candidates at the election to support Tinubu towards the delivery of electioneering campaign promises to the people.
“It is in the interest of the nation that we should all support President Tinubu in his efforts to put the country on a sound footing for development and growth,” he said.
